Ruohonen House.
At the corner of Saaristokatu and Kauppakatu, at Kauppakatu 10, there is the Ruohonen house, which by Raahe standards is a typical small classisistic wooden house with its symmetrical window partition, six-paned windows, wide horizontal boarding, corner rustication, impressive eaves, and tiled roofing as well. The house has a long row of outbuildings well looked after, by the street The main building is on a high stone base, and when we bear in mind that the street level has been raised several dozen centimetres in connection with water, sewerage, and paving work, we get a good idea of how high up the houses were usually built in the 19th century.
The houses at this street corner all represent wood construction of the first hald of the 19th century, which in Raahe was characterized by balanced dimensions, symmetry of neo-classicism and modest embellishment.
