Raahe at a glance

Raahe is located on the northern shores of the Gulf of Bothnia in the Northern Ostrobothnia region. Raahe is both a town and municipality with a population of 25,068 (2017). Historically an agricultural and maritime region, Ostrobothnia supplied the largest number of immigrants from Finland to the US and other countries such as Canada and Australia during the great migration of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The town of Raahe is one of the 10 historic wooden towns (or town centres) remaining in Finland.

An expanding seaside town, it has a tranquil expanse of snow in the winter and is bustling with activity in the summer.
