Pekkatori square is the most important entity included in the town plan drawn by Gustaf Odenwall in 1811 after the fire of Raahe. It was to become an administrative and trading centre. Plots around the square were given to the most notable burghers of the town, i.e. the aldermen, merchants and shipowners. A new town hall was to be built on the plot of the southwest corner of the square.

The church square that already existed in the first town plans of Raahe, also gives a versatile picture of the construction of a sea town over the centuries.

Reiponkatu is a former seamen’s and craftsmen’s residential street. The houses along the street are small and the plots narrow. Rows of outbuildings have been preserved on the plots against the church hill.

Saaristokatu is one of Raahe’s old seamen’s residential streets; most of the houses were built during the first half of the 19th century. Originally the houses had 1 or 2 rooms. They have gradually been extended. The houses in the street have generally been well looked after and inhabited. Fortunately the house at Saaristokatu 4 has still been preserved. It gives Saaristokatu a special charm and is the only house in Old Raahe which has its gable facing the street.

The oldest part of the Leufstadius house (Rantakatu 32) dates from 1804, and the small part facing Cortenkatu, the former tobacco factory, is from 1830. The outbuildings of the house have been partly preserved. A storehouse dating from the 18th century has been moved into the yard of the Sovio house. The house has served as a private old-age home in the past.

Old Raahe is one of the best preserved wooden towns of the 19th century in Finland. The northern part of the grid plan area, is preserved as an urban area for one-family houses, gives historical depth to today's steel town.

The buildings around the first marketplace of the town, nowadays Myhrberg Park, give a good picture of the wooden town construction in Raahe from the 18th century up to the first decades of the 20th century.
